FX Speculators drop US Dollar Index bets for 3rd week. Euro, GBP bets jump

Large currency speculators reduced their bullish net positions in the US Dollar Index futures markets once again this week, according to the latest Commitment of Traders (COT) data released by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) on Friday.

Speculators decreased their bullish bets for the US Dollar Index for a third consecutive week.

Overall, the major currencies that saw improving speculator positions this week were the euro (14,409 weekly change in contracts), British pound sterling (11,996 contracts), Canadian dollar (8,309 contracts), Australian dollar (4,216 contracts) and the New Zealand dollar (1,682 contracts).

The currencies whose speculative bets declined this week were the US dollar index (-3,569 weekly change in contracts), Japanese yen (-15,117 contracts), Swiss franc (-7,223 contracts) and the Mexican peso (-9,163 contracts).

WTI Crude Oil Speculators slightly trimmed their bullish bets

The large speculator contracts of WTI crude futures totaled a net position of 567,909 contracts, according to the latest data this week. This was a change of -421 contracts from the previous weekly total.

 


10-Year Note Speculators turn bullish for 1st time in 130 weeks

Large speculator contracts of the 10-Year Bond futures totaled a net position of 2,254 contracts, according to the latest data this week. This was a change of 55,174 contracts from the previous weekly total.

 


Gold Speculators dropped their bullish bets to 51-week low

Large precious metals speculator contracts of the Gold futures totaled a net position of 208,613 contracts, according to the latest data this week. This was a change of -10,421 contracts from the previous weekly total.

 


VIX Speculators raised bearish bets for 3rd week to 12-week high

Large stock market volatility speculator contracts of the VIX futures totaled a net position of -67,453 contracts, according to the latest data this week. This was a change of -14,802 contracts from the previous weekly total.
